Questions about roofs, concrete and exterior cleaning

Straight answers about your roof, walls and concrete, written the way we’d explain them in your driveway.

Maybe you’re looking at black streaks on the roof. Maybe a replacement quote is sitting on the kitchen counter. Or the driveway by the garage has started to flake. Either way, you’ve got questions.

These are the ones we hear most. Some answers point to a cleaning or a treatment. Some say you don’t need anything yet. A few say it’s time to call a roofer, and we’ll tell you that too.

The best answer comes from seeing your property. Book a free exterior evaluation and ask us in person.

Can an aging roof be restored instead of replaced?

In many cases, yes, as long as the roof is still sound. If the shingles are drying out, losing flexibility or just showing their age, but the deck is solid and nothing leaks, a treatment may help extend the roof’s useful life.

Can you protect concrete after it is cleaned?

Yes. Once your concrete is clean, we can apply a protective treatment designed to help reduce water getting in, staining and weather-related wear. The cleaning has to come first. A treatment can only soak into pores that are open.

What causes the black streaks on my roof?

Those streaks are usually algae, not dirt or soot. It grows on the shingles themselves, mostly on the slopes that stay damp the longest. From the driveway it’s easy to take for grime or tree droppings.

There’s no single right schedule. How often your house needs a wash depends on shade, trees, which side of the house you’re looking at, and what the siding is made of. A sunny wall with open sky above it can stay clean for a long time.
