Roof rejuvenation is a treatment for aging asphalt shingles. It’s applied to the roof to help restore some flexibility and address some of the effects of age, like dry, brittle shingles.
It’s for roofs that are getting old but are still sound. It isn’t a cure for a roof that’s already failing.
Why shingles get dry and stiff
Asphalt shingles slowly lose what keeps them bendable. InterNACHI says keeping a roof cool “will help slow the loss of volatiles which keep shingles flexible, durable and waterproof.” Sun and heat speed that loss up. Evansville’s July average high is 88.6°F (NOAA 1991-2020 normals), and a roof sits in that sun all day.
As those shingles dry, they turn stiff and brittle. Rejuvenation aims to help with that stage of aging. We use NexaNano products, and we’re a NexaNano Certified Dealer and Applicator.
What it isn’t
- It isn’t paint. NexaNano says its treatment “dries clear and maintains the natural look of the material.” Your roof keeps its color.
- It isn’t a thick layer on top. NexaNano says its technology is built to “integrate with the surface itself” instead of forming “a heavy topical membrane.”
- It isn’t a repair. It won’t stop a leak, replace a missing shingle or fix loose flashing.
- It isn’t roof protection. Protection is a water-repelling barrier for roofs in better shape. Here’s how rejuvenation and protection compare.
Before we suggest it, we read your shingle maker’s guidance and any HOA rules that apply to your home. If rejuvenation isn’t a fit, we’ll say so. If the roof needs a roofer instead, we’ll tell you that too.
