What is roof protection?

Your roof is in fair shape and you’d like to keep it that way. Roof protection is one way to help with that.

Roof protection is a water-repelling barrier applied to your roof. It’s designed to help shield the roofing from moisture, UV and the rest of the weather.

It works best on a roof that’s still in decent shape. Benjamin Franklin put it well: “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

How it works, in plain words

We use NexaNano products. NexaNano says its treatments are “designed to penetrate porous surfaces while forming a breathable protective barrier.” Breathable means moisture trapped underneath can still escape. Rain that lands on top should bead up and roll off instead of soaking in.

NexaNano lists the conditions it designs for, including “Humid climates,” “Heavy rainfall” and “Mold and algae-prone regions.” That sounds a lot like home. Evansville gets measurable precipitation on 118 days a year (NOAA 1991-2020 normals).

Protection often goes on right after a roof cleaning. It’s meant to help the roof stay clean longer.

The water-beading check

We don’t just spray and leave. After a protection treatment, we test it. We put water on the treated shingles and watch what it does. Beads that roll off mean the barrier is doing its job in that spot. Water that darkens the shingle and soaks in tells us that area needs another look.

Before any of that, we check your shingle maker’s guidance and your HOA rules, if you have an HOA, so we’re not recommending something your roof shouldn’t get.
